Arkas

Arkas 2.0 is a research database of archaeological sites in Slovenia. Sites up to and including the Early Middle Ages that have been published in scientific publications are systematically included. Sites from urban topographies are excluded. In addition to descriptions of sites, the database also contains information on archival material held by the Institute of Archaeology of the Slovenian Archaeological Research Centre. Cave Registry

The Cave Registry, which is maintained in duplicate by the Speleological Association of Slovenia, includes all registered caves in the Republic of Slovenia (15,095 caves at the end of 2022). Paper documentation (descriptions, plans, photos...) is kept in cabinets, and a digital database is also derived from it.

Cartographic collection and other documentation

The cartographic collection comprises 54 units, it contains 6,846 printed maps and 5,126 drawn maps, plans, sketches and diagrams. Cadastre of water objects – B includes 869 figures (1 running meter), cadastre of surface forms – C 525 figures (0.6 rm); cadastre of man-made structures – D (mines, tunnels, wells and boreholes) 85 numbers (0.1 rm), and the cadastre of the pre-war Istituto Italiano de Speleologia / Italian Speleological Institute – VG 3700 numbers (4 rm of material). Legacy funds of former colleagues, which contain typescripts, manuscripts, proofreading, photographic and other material, comprise 41 rm, and the archive of the institute's secretariat 68 rm. The data is from 2021.

Geographical Museum

The museum is kept all the important work issued by the Geographical institute and a number of collections. Map collection encompasses maps for different purposes and at different scales from 16. century onwards. Besides general purpose maps there are also different thematic and topographic maps as well as school wall maps. A great deal of the material is connected to the Slovene territory and the neighbouring countries. Atlas collection encompasses more then two hundred atlases from 17. century onwards. Picture collection comprehends postcards and photographs of Slovene settlements as well as limited number of copperplate printings and lithographies. Among the most work are the first and second edition of Valvasor's Die Ehre des Hertzogthums Crain (Glory of the Duchy of Carniola), Münster edition of Ptolemy's Geography and colour Flojančič map of Carniola. Other collections are a collection of older globes, a collection of statistical data on the Slovenian territory, a collection of material on the development of the geographic profession in Slovenia and the collection of the Triglav glacier. Archival Collection of the Slovenian Biographical Lexicon

Informally, the archives of the Slovenian Biographical Lexicon (SBL) already began to operate before 1925, when the first volume of the lexicon was issued. In the desire for the lexical entries to be based on the latest data, the editorial board decided to send questionnaires to the still-living creators. The questionnaires and materials that the authors of articles on prominent Slovenes collected for the lexicon were the foundation of the archives, which have been operating for nearly ninety years. At the end of 2012, the treasuries of written, printed, photographic or otherwise recorded documents on prominent Slovenes or individuals who were importantly linked to Slovenian culture and actively engaged in our political, cultural, scholarly, economic and other kind of development, contained about 14,560 files (personal and family collections). Each year, about 3000 existing files are upgraded with new materials – mostly clippings from periodicals, folders, brochures and other kinds of ephemera with biographical data – and more than 250 new ones are opened.
