Workers' Unions

There are two unions at ZRC SAZU - the Union of the Institutes ZRC SAZU and SAZU and the SVIZ ZRC SAZU union. Membership in both is voluntary, employees can be members of both unions. The unions work both individually and in co-organizations, and they also connect with the administration of ZRC SAZU in activities aimed at all employees. The two union trustees give an opinion on the legal acts of the ZRC administration, which concern the employees of ZRC SAZU and are invited to the meetings of the ZRC SAZU Board of Directors.

The union of the Institutes ZRC SAZU and SAZU is the organization that represents its members in two organizations - at the Scientific Research Center of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts and at the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. It is included in the Independent Union of Workers of the University of Ljubljana (NSDLU), and through it in the Confederation of Public Sector Unions. The number of members currently varies between 90 and 95 (depending on retirements and the entry of new members).

The union unites colleagues who are aware of the importance of mutual relations at the workplace, the importance of labour rights and want to co-create a working environment where we can also grow as individuals. Membership in the union provides additional opportunities for recreation, more affordable attendance at Drama and MGL performances, financial assistance to young families at New Year's, legal assistance in the event of workplace issues, and mutual financial assistance. The Čebelica [Bee] fund works for this purpose. It is a form of mutual fund into which you pay a certain amount every month, and when you find yourself in financial trouble, you can borrow money interest-free and agree on an appropriate repayment period. Participation in the fund is not mandatory for members, but all employees of ZRC SAZU and SAZU can participate in it.

Special solidarity financial assistance also belongs to members in the event of the death of the closest family members, and in the cases of damage in natural disasters. In the case of these events, members should contact the union as soon as possible.

The union currently provides more favorable winter and annual vacations through NSDLU, and in 2024, in cooperation with the ZRC SAZU administration, subsidized vacations will be re-established for members of our union and also other employees, depending on availability. The trade union actively participates in negotiations with employers for appropriate pay for work and appropriate conditions at the workplace, and at this very moment, within the framework of the umbrella union, also in the creation of a new salary system for civil servants.
